Procedures & Techniques

Procedures & Expertise

Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant (Allo-BMT)

The most complex and potentially curative form of BMT where stem cells come from a matched donor (sibling or unrelated). Used for leukemia, aplastic anemia, and inherited blood disorders.

  • HLA-matched sibling and unrelated donor transplants
  • Haplo-identical (half-match) transplants using parent or child donors
  • Reduced-intensity conditioning for older patients
  • Comprehensive GVHD prevention and management
Expected Outcome: Potential cure for blood cancers — long-term remission achieved in 60–80% of suitable patients
Autologous Stem Cell Transplant (Auto-SCT)

Patient's own stem cells are harvested, stored, and reinfused after high-dose chemotherapy. Primarily used in multiple myeloma and relapsed lymphomas.

  • Peripheral blood stem cell collection (PBSC)
  • High-dose melphalan for multiple myeloma
  • BEAM conditioning for lymphoma
  • Rapid recovery with minimal GVHD risk
Expected Outcome: Deepens remission and extends progression-free survival in myeloma and lymphoma patients
CAR T-Cell Therapy

Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell therapy — a revolutionary immunotherapy where the patient's own T-cells are genetically reprogrammed to attack cancer cells.

  • CD19-targeted CAR T for B-cell lymphomas and ALL
  • BCMA-targeted CAR T for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma
  • Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) management
  • Available for patients who have relapsed after 2+ lines of therapy
Expected Outcome: Complete remission in 40–70% of relapsed/refractory blood cancer patients with no other options
HSCT for Multiple Sclerosis

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) for aggressive relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis — resets the immune system to halt disease progression.

  • Patient selection based on EDSS score and MRI activity
  • Non-myeloablative conditioning to minimize risks
  • Pioneer centre in India for this procedure (since 2016)
  • Comprehensive neurology team collaboration
Expected Outcome: Halts or reverses disability progression in 70–80% of carefully selected MS patients
BMT for Thalassemia & Sickle Cell Disease

The only curative treatment for beta-thalassemia major and sickle cell disease through allogeneic stem cell transplantation from an HLA-matched sibling.

  • Best outcomes in Pesaro Class I & II patients (children with minimal organ damage)
  • Low-cost BMT programs available (10 centres across India)
  • Dedicated thalassemia transplant protocols
  • Vision of a thalassemia-free India
Expected Outcome: Disease-free survival of 85–90% in young children transplanted in Class I & II

What post-treatment follow-up is provided for international patients?
